Everstra Capture Free
On-camera scheduled photo and video capture for Axis cameras. Four independent recording modes running directly on the camera hardware — no PC, no cloud, no external software required. Nothing phones home during operation — no telemetry, no analytics, no account.
Encrypted uploads NEW IN 0.5.0
Until now, FTP uploads travelled unencrypted. Now they use FTPS by default, with the server’s certificate checked; SFTP checks the server’s fingerprint before the login. “Test connection” tries login, encryption, folder and write permission in one go, and “Fetch fingerprint” takes the SFTP key over with one click. Jobs that already uploaded via plain FTP keep working after the update and show a notice to switch.
The storage-warning e-mails can now be edited and pre-filled in 12 languages; the settings pages themselves remain in English. This release also closes security gaps found in our own review. Release notes 0.5.0
Now Axis-signed
Everstra Capture is now a digitally signed ACAP application, countersigned by Axis Communications. The camera verifies the signature against Axis’s own trust chain — from the device’s firmware up to the application — before the app runs, and it installs even on cameras configured to reject unsigned apps. That makes it ready for use in professional and corporate camera networks.
What it does
- Long Term — scheduled snapshots on an hourly or custom rhythm over weeks, months or years. Configurable date range, capture window, resolution and storage location per job
- Startrail — one automatic star-trail composite per night, timed to sunset/sunrise at the camera's location. Raw frames are archived, never discarded, so a night can be recomposited later with different settings
- Timelapse — scheduled or continuous interval capture, encoded into H.264 MP4 video on the camera. Flexible triggers (time window, daylight, night, a fixed lookback period), automatic splitting of long runs, and frame/video retention
- Intraday — a rolling video that always shows the most recent window (e.g. the last 30 minutes), replaced automatically block by block — a continuously up-to-date clip without a growing archive
- Media Manager — one shared library for everything captured, tagged by mode and job, with filtering, ZIP download and deletion
- Storage management — live free-space overview for internal storage and SD card, configurable warn/stop thresholds, and an optional email notification when space runs low
- Encrypted upload — automatic upload of finished videos and composites to your server, encrypted by default (FTPS with the server certificate checked, or SFTP with the server's fingerprint), with “Test connection” and independent retention on the remote side. Plain FTP remains available for a trusted local network, with a clear warning
- Web UI accessible directly from the camera's settings page — no separate app or login required
- Stream recordings — browse, export and manage what Everstra Live recorded to the SD card
- Dark mode

Requirements
- Axis camera with ACAP support. AXIS OS 11.11 (LTS 2024) or later
- Architecture: aarch64 (most current models) or armv7hf — see the list of supported models
- An SD card is strongly recommended for anything beyond short test runs — internal storage on most cameras is small relative to what continuous recording, startrail archives or timelapse frame sequences need
- A license key — free, activated online in one click (or by e-mail without internet), bound to camera hardware
