What is Everstra?
Free apps that run directly on Axis cameras — streaming (Live), overlays (Overlay) and time-capture (Capture). No PC, no cloud, no subscription. Made by one person who uses the apps himself.
Is it really free?
Yes. All four modules and their licences are free. There is no subscription and no hidden cost.
Do I have to install all four apps?
No. Install one, two, three or all four — they run independently, side by side on the same camera.
Does it work with non-Axis cameras?
No. Everstra apps are ACAP applications that run on the camera itself, and ACAP is Axis-specific. They don't run on Hikvision, Dahua or other brands.
Will Everstra stay free?
The current modules and their licences are free, and that's how they're offered today. A paid option may exist in the future, but everything available now is free to use.
How can I support Everstra? Your help counts
Everstra is completely free — so if you'd like to give something back, two simple things help enormously. First, link to everstra.com — from your own website or in the description of your YouTube video or stream; for a small project a backlink like that is the single biggest help for visibility. Privacy & data
Do the apps phone home?
Not during operation. No telemetry, no usage reporting, and no analytics of any kind — not the developer's, and no third-party analytics such as Google Analytics. The only contact with an Everstra server is the one-time online activation, and only when you click “Activate online”: the camera sends its hardware ID, its model and firmware version (e.g. 11.11) and the module name — plus an e-mail address if you enter one, for a copy of your key. Only model, firmware and module are kept, anonymously, as a count per day (no time of day). If you switch on update notifications (off by default), the camera also fetches a small file with the newest version number once a day — nothing about the camera is sent. Prefer no contact at all? Activate offline with a key file and leave update notifications off. Apart from that, the outbound connections are the ones you set up yourself — the next question lists them.
Which connections leave the camera?
By default, none. Outbound connections only come about once you set a feature up — and only the ones belonging to that feature: your live stream to your RTMP destination, optionally e-mail notifications via your SMTP server, optionally file uploads to your own server (encrypted by default, FTPS or SFTP), and — if you enable the weather overlay — a request to Open-Meteo (a third-party service), which receives your camera's coordinates, and — if the AIS map is shown on a map background — map-tile requests to OpenStreetMap (or MapTiler, with a key), which reveal the area the map shows, and — if you use Water Levels — requests to BSH and PEGELONLINE for tides and water levels (with the centre and radius of the map area when nearby stations are shown) and map-tile requests to OpenStreetMap — and, only when you click it, the one-time online activation to activate.everstra.com, and, only if you switch them on, update notifications (a daily request to updates.everstra.com that sends nothing about the camera). All of it can be switched off, and the weather overlay additionally requires your explicit consent. A built-in report of every active interface is part of the app — the privacy manager, available in Live, Overlay and Capture.
Does the app collect my camera's serial number or usage data?
No. No serial number is kept, and nothing about how you use the apps is collected or sent to the developer. For the online activation the camera sends its hardware ID (MAC address, on Axis cameras also the serial number) once; the server uses it only to sign your key and then discards it. What is kept is anonymous: the module, the camera model and the firmware version (Major.Minor, e.g. 11.11), counted per day (no time of day) — it shows which cameras and firmware the apps must keep working on. No name, MAC address, IP address or e-mail is stored, and we never try to link a count to you or your installation. Only in theory, with very few activations, could a single day's count be narrowed down by someone who already knows about that activation from elsewhere. The other exceptions follow from settings you make yourself: with the weather overlay enabled, the coordinates you configured go to Open-Meteo with every request; and with the AIS map shown on a map background, the map-tile requests to OpenStreetMap (or MapTiler) reveal the area the map shows.
Do I need an account?
No. No login, no profile, no sign-up. The free licence is tied to your camera's hardware and activated online or requested by e-mail. Online, the project keeps nothing about you: the hardware ID is used only to sign the key and then discarded; an e-mail address only if you give one — used once to send your key, not stored.
What is the privacy manager?
The privacy manager is a page inside each Everstra module that lists every connection the module opens — stream, upload and mail destinations you configure, any external service in use, and the local interfaces on the camera — each with its status and the data it exchanges. It is built from your real configuration, can be exported as PNG or CSV, and is backed by a build check that fails if any connection the code can open is missing from the report.
Can I verify what the app does?
Yes. Every download comes with a SHA-256 checksum to verify its integrity, the third-party notices list every bundled component, and the source of the open-source libraries is published on everstra.com.
Licence & activation
How do I get a licence?
Click “Activate online” in the app's License tab — the camera fetches its key and is licensed at once. Without internet: request a key by e-mail and upload the file in the same tab. Either way the trial restriction is then lifted.
Why online activation — and do I have to use it?
It keeps “free” sustainable. The key that makes a licence valid is no longer inside the software; it is signed on the server for your camera's hardware. That makes copying a licence clearly harder — not impossible, nothing is, but no longer a matter of copying a file around. The camera contacts the server once, at the moment you click; after that it runs offline, and the licence is yours for the lifetime of that camera. You don't have to use it: for a camera without internet, request a key by e-mail and upload it.
Where do I find my licence key later?
In the License tab, as long as the app is licensed: Show license key and Download license file. The camera reads its own licence file — no server contact. Keep a copy: after a reinstall on the same camera you just re-apply it.
How does the trial work?
Each app runs for 7 days in trial mode. After that you activate the free licence to continue.
My licence “isn't accepted” — why?
Each licence is bound to the hardware of one specific camera (its ID) and only works on that camera. The most common reason for “not accepted”: the file was uploaded to a different camera than the one it was issued for.
I have several cameras — do I need several licences?
Yes, one licence per camera (and per module). Each is free; just request one for each camera ID.
I reinstalled the app and my settings are gone.
Uninstalling removes the configuration. Export your settings in the Backup tab beforehand and import them again after reinstalling. Your licence is not lost: just re-apply your saved key (the .lic file or the key from your e-mail) — on the same camera no new licence is needed.
Does the backup include my passwords?
No — and that's deliberate. For security reasons, secrets are not exported: for Live the camera password and stream key, for Overlay and Capture things like e-mail and FTP passwords. After restoring a backup you re-enter these fields once by hand — the app remembers that a password was set, never the password itself. If a stream or upload doesn't start after a restore, this is almost always why.
Requirements & installation
Is Everstra safe to install? Is it signed and approved by Axis?
Yes. All four Everstra modules — Live, Overlay, Capture and Hub — are digitally signed and countersigned by Axis Communications. Before an app runs, the camera verifies its signature against Axis’s own trust chain, from the device’s firmware up to the application, so you can be sure it comes from a trustworthy source and reaches your camera untampered. The apps install even on cameras configured to reject unsigned apps (AXIS OS 11.11 and later), which makes Everstra suitable for professional and corporate camera networks.
Which cameras are supported?
Axis cameras running a current AXIS OS (LTS 2024 or newer), in the aarch64 and armv7hf architectures. Some older models don't support certain overlay features — if unsure, just ask. The full model list is on the compatibility page.
How do I install an app?
Download the .eap file from everstra.com and upload it in the camera's web interface under “Apps”. Done.
How do I update to a new version?
Download the new .eap and install it over the existing app in the camera's Apps page. Unlike uninstalling, updating keeps your configuration. To be told when a new version or a security fix is out, switch on update notifications in the License tab (opt-in, anonymous).
How do I find out about new versions and security fixes?
Switch on update notifications in the License tab — opt-in, off by default. Once a day the camera checks whether a newer version exists. If so, every page of the app shows a notice with the release date and a Download button. A security update is highlighted and its notice can't be dismissed; an ordinary one can be dismissed for that version. Check now checks at once. Nothing is installed automatically — you decide when to update.
What does the update check send?
Nothing about the camera. It is an anonymous request for one small static file on updates.everstra.com that contains only the newest version numbers. No hardware ID, no model, not even the installed version is sent — the comparison happens on the camera. Switch it off and no connection is made at all.
Do I need an SD card?
Not for streaming or overlays. For Capture (photo series, time-lapses) an SD card is recommended, because that's where the recordings are stored.
Everstra Live
Where can I stream to?
YouTube, Facebook, Twitch or any RTMP/RTMPS target — directly from the camera, with no intermediate device.
What do I need to set it up?
Your camera user, camera password and stream key (on YouTube you'll find it in the Live dashboard). Enter them, save, and you're live.
Does it support encrypted streaming (RTMPS)?
Yes — and since Live 0.8.0 with certificate validation (earlier versions encrypted the stream, but did not check the server). Required by Facebook Live, recommended by YouTube — and it gets through networks that block the usual RTMP port.
Can I run several streams at once?
Yes, up to three independent streams in parallel — each with its own destination, resolution, audio source and view area.
Why does a recording setting that differs from the stream cost performance?
Recording “as streamed” writes the very same video the camera is already encoding for your stream, so it costs practically nothing on top. As soon as the recording differs — a different resolution or quality, or without overlays — the camera has to produce a second video signal, and encoding that is real work: measured at roughly +8.7 percentage points of total CPU on a two-core camera for an H.264 stream recorded without overlays. If the camera is already busy, leave the recording on “as streamed”.
Always use the same, permanent stream key Important
In YouTube, create one permanent stream key by hand and always reuse it — don't take the key YouTube auto-suggests for each new broadcast. This is essential for uninterrupted streaming: make sure the same stream key is used for every session and every time you recreate or reconnect the stream.
Set the stream up via “Schedule stream”, never “Stream now” Very important
This is the biggest lever and the most common setup mistake. In YouTube go Create → Go live, then in the dashboard choose Manage (not the “Stream” entry in the sidebar) and click Schedule stream. Only via a scheduled stream do you get the option to disable “Stop streaming automatically” in the stream settings — turn it off. That way a short interruption won't immediately end the broadcast while you're not yet using the keep-alive failover.
The stream won't recover or the app has stopped responding — what can I do?
A clean reinstall fixes it in almost all cases. First export your settings (Backup tab) and save the app log, then uninstall the app, install it again, and re-upload your licence key. Important: make the backup and save the log before you uninstall — otherwise your configuration and the log are gone.
Keep-alive failover
What does the failover do?
If the camera drops out, a standby client takes over with a maintenance image so YouTube never ends the broadcast — keeping the stream's URL, audience and accumulated reach instead of restarting from zero.
Is it plug-and-play?
No. The standby client runs on a Raspberry Pi or small server at another location and is self-hosted. Setting it up needs basic Linux knowledge.
Everstra Overlay
Which overlays are there?
Text, graphic and weather overlays, rendered directly into the camera image — up to 5 text, 5 graphic and 2 weather overlays at once.
Where does the weather come from — do I need an API key?
From Open-Meteo, fetched by the camera itself — no API key and no account. Commercial use requires a confirmation; the data source is shown as attribution in the image.
Can I schedule overlays?
Yes, via the planner — by weekday, by hour, and even automatically by sunrise and sunset.
Does Everstra Overlay include vessel tracking?
Yes — the AIS Ship Tracker is available as a premium module. It displays real-time vessel positions on an interactive map, with ship symbols, silhouettes, arrival and departure tracking, and automatic view switching. It requires an AIS receiver connected to the camera's network. The AIS Ship Tracker is a premium module that requires its own licence.
Does Everstra Overlay show water levels and tides?
Yes — Water Levels is available as a premium module. It shows tide times, the current water level with its trend, a tide curve, a map with nearby stations and the water temperature. The data comes from the German BSH and PEGELONLINE services, nationwide, or from a BSH tide file you upload. Water Levels is a premium module that requires its own licence.
Everstra Capture
What can Capture record?
Four modes: Long Term Capture (stills over weeks to years), Timelapse (interval capture encoded to MP4 on the camera), Star Trail (a night star-trail composite) and Intraday (a rolling daily clip).
Where do the recordings go?
Into a shared media manager on the camera — filter, download or zip them there. Optional FTP upload and storage management with an e-mail warning when space runs low.
Does Capture work with recordings from Everstra Live?
Yes — that is the division of labour between the two. Live records the stream it is sending to the camera's SD card; Capture is where that material is handled, because Capture already owns storage. It shows the recordings as continuous periods rather than as the camera's internal segments, with the stretches that were never recorded drawn as the gaps they are; it exports any stretch as a single MKV or MP4 file, joining the parts without re-encoding; and it manages retention and deletion. Live never deletes a recording — deleting lives in exactly one place. Recording needs both modules installed: without Capture, Live does not offer it.
Everstra Hub
How do I connect Everstra Hub to Home Assistant securely (MQTT over TLS)?
Everstra Hub speaks MQTT over TLS to your own broker — typically the Mosquitto add-on in Home Assistant — and can reach it across sites through Tailscale. Is there support?
Yes, by e-mail — a one-person project with no fixed SLA, but honest help. Feedback and ideas are explicitly welcome.
Can you build custom modules (e.g. ship / flight tracker)?
Yes, on request. One such module already runs on the Schlüttsiel ferry-port webcam (an overlay with ship tracking and weather warnings in the live image). If you need something comparable, get in touch.

Kosten die Apps wirklich nichts?

Muss ich alle vier installieren?
Nein. Installier eins, zwei, drei oder alle vier — sie laufen unabhängig nebeneinander auf derselben Kamera.
Läuft es auch auf Nicht-Axis-Kameras?
Nein. Die Everstra-Apps sind ACAP-Anwendungen, die auf der Kamera selbst laufen, und ACAP ist Axis-spezifisch. Auf Hikvision, Dahua oder anderen Marken laufen sie nicht.
Bleibt Everstra kostenlos?
Die aktuellen Module und ihre Lizenzen sind kostenlos, und so werden sie heute angeboten. Eine Bezahloption kann es künftig geben, aber alles, was jetzt verfügbar ist, ist kostenlos nutzbar.
Wie kann ich Everstra unterstützen? Deine Hilfe zählt

Datenschutz & Daten
Telefonieren die Apps nach Hause?
Nicht im Betrieb. Keine Telemetrie, keine Nutzungsberichte und keinerlei Analytics — weder vom Entwickler noch von Dritten wie etwa Google Analytics. Der einzige Kontakt zu einem Everstra-Server ist die einmalige Online-Aktivierung, und nur, wenn du auf „Activate online“ klickst: Die Kamera sendet ihre Hardware-Kennung, Modell und Firmware-Version (z. B. 11.11) und den Modulnamen — dazu eine E-Mail-Adresse, falls du eine angibst, für eine Kopie deines Schlüssels. Behalten werden nur Modell, Firmware und Modul, anonym, als Zählung pro Tag (ohne Uhrzeit). Schaltest du die Update-Benachrichtigung ein (ab Werk aus), ruft die Kamera außerdem einmal täglich eine kleine Datei mit der neuesten Versionsnummer ab — über die Kamera wird dabei nichts gesendet. Lieber gar kein Kontakt? Aktiviere offline mit einer Lizenzdatei und lass die Update-Benachrichtigung aus. Ansonsten sind die ausgehenden Verbindungen die, die du selbst einrichtest — welche das sind, steht in der nächsten Frage.
Welche Verbindungen verlassen die Kamera?
Standardmäßig keine. Erst wenn du eine Funktion einrichtest, entstehen ausgehende Verbindungen — und nur die, die zu dieser Funktion gehören: dein Live-Stream zu deinem RTMP-Ziel, optional E-Mail-Benachrichtigungen über deinen SMTP-Server, optional Datei-Uploads zu deinem eigenen Server (standardmäßig verschlüsselt, FTPS oder SFTP), und — falls du das Wetter-Overlay aktivierst — ein Abruf bei Open-Meteo (ein Drittdienst), der die Koordinaten deiner Kamera erhält, und — falls die AIS-Karte mit Kartenhintergrund angezeigt wird — Kachelabrufe bei OpenStreetMap (oder MapTiler, mit Key), die den gezeigten Kartenausschnitt erkennen lassen, und — falls du Water Levels nutzt — Abrufe bei BSH und PEGELONLINE für Gezeiten und Wasserstände (mit Mittelpunkt und Radius des Kartenausschnitts, wenn Stationen in der Umgebung gezeigt werden) und Kachelabrufe bei OpenStreetMap — und, nur wenn du darauf klickst, die einmalige Online-Aktivierung bei activate.everstra.com, sowie, nur wenn du sie einschaltest, die Update-Benachrichtigung (ein täglicher Abruf bei updates.everstra.com, der nichts über die Kamera sendet). Alles ist abschaltbar, das Wetter-Overlay ist zusätzlich zustimmungspflichtig. Einen eingebauten Report aller aktiven Schnittstellen findest du direkt in der App — den Privacy-Manager, verfügbar in Live, Overlay und Capture.
Erfasst die App die Seriennummer meiner Kamera oder Nutzungsdaten?
Nein. Keine Seriennummer wird behalten, und über deine Nutzung der Apps wird nichts erfasst oder an den Entwickler gesendet. Für die Online-Aktivierung sendet die Kamera einmal ihre Hardware-Kennung (MAC-Adresse, bei Axis zugleich die Seriennummer); der Server nutzt sie nur, um deinen Schlüssel zu signieren, und verwirft sie dann. Behalten wird nur Anonymes: das Modul, das Kameramodell und die Firmware-Version (Haupt- und Nebenversion, z. B. 11.11), gezählt pro Tag (ohne Uhrzeit) — es zeigt, auf welchen Kameras und Firmware-Ständen die Apps weiterlaufen müssen. Gespeichert werden weder Name noch MAC-Adresse, IP-Adresse oder E-Mail, und wir versuchen nie, eine Zählung dir oder deiner Installation zuzuordnen. Nur theoretisch, bei sehr wenigen Aktivierungen, könnte jemand, der aus anderer Quelle von einer Aktivierung weiß, einen einzelnen Tageswert eingrenzen. Die übrigen Ausnahmen folgen aus Einstellungen, die du selbst vornimmst: Bei aktiviertem Wetter-Overlay gehen die von dir hinterlegten Koordinaten mit jedem Abruf an Open-Meteo, und bei der AIS-Karte mit Kartenhintergrund lassen die Kachelabrufe bei OpenStreetMap (oder MapTiler) den gezeigten Kartenausschnitt erkennen.
Brauche ich ein Konto?
Nein. Kein Login, kein Profil, keine Registrierung. Die kostenlose Lizenz ist an die Hardware deiner Kamera gebunden und wird online aktiviert oder per E-Mail angefragt. Online behält das Projekt nichts über dich: Die Hardware-Kennung dient nur zum Signieren des Schlüssels und wird dann verworfen, eine E-Mail-Adresse nur, wenn du eine angibst — einmal für deinen Schlüssel genutzt, nicht gespeichert.
Was ist der Privacy-Manager?
Der Privacy-Manager ist eine Seite in jedem Everstra-Modul, die jede Verbindung auflistet, die das Modul öffnet — die Stream-, Upload- und Mail-Ziele, die du einrichtest, jeden genutzten externen Dienst und die lokalen Schnittstellen auf der Kamera — jeweils mit Status und den ausgetauschten Daten. Er wird aus deiner echten Konfiguration abgeleitet, lässt sich als PNG oder CSV exportieren und wird von einem Build-Check abgesichert, der fehlschlägt, sobald eine Verbindung, die der Code öffnen kann, im Report fehlt.
Kann ich prüfen, was die App tut?
Ja. Zu jeder Datei gibt es eine SHA-256-Prüfsumme zur Integritätsprüfung, die Third-Party-Notices listen jede eingebundene Komponente, und der Quelltext der Open-Source-Bibliotheken ist auf everstra.com veröffentlicht.
Lizenz & Aktivierung
Wie bekomme ich eine Lizenz?
Im License-Tab der App auf „Activate online“ klicken — die Kamera holt ihren Schlüssel und ist sofort lizenziert. Ohne Internet: per E-Mail anfragen und die Lizenzdatei im selben Tab hochladen. In beiden Fällen ist die Testeinschränkung danach weg.
Warum Online-Aktivierung — und muss ich sie nutzen?
Sie hält „kostenlos“ tragfähig. Der Schlüssel, der eine Lizenz gültig macht, steckt nicht mehr in der Software; er wird auf dem Server für die Hardware deiner Kamera signiert. Das macht das Kopieren einer Lizenz deutlich schwerer — nicht unmöglich, das ist nichts, aber nicht mehr eine Frage des Weiterreichens einer Datei. Die Kamera meldet sich einmal beim Server, in dem Moment, in dem du klickst; danach läuft sie offline, und die Lizenz gehört dir für die Lebensdauer dieser Kamera. Pflicht ist sie nicht: Für eine Kamera ohne Internet forderst du den Schlüssel per E-Mail an und lädst ihn hoch.
Wo finde ich meinen Lizenzschlüssel später?
Im License-Tab, solange die App lizenziert ist: Show license key und Download license file. Die Kamera liest dafür ihre eigene Lizenzdatei — kein Serverkontakt. Heb eine Kopie auf: Nach einer Neuinstallation auf derselben Kamera spielst du sie einfach wieder ein.
Was ist mit der Testphase?
Jede App läuft 7 Tage im Testmodus. Danach aktivierst du die kostenlose Lizenz, um weiterzumachen.
Die Lizenz wird „nicht angenommen“ — warum?
Jede Lizenz ist an die Hardware einer bestimmten Kamera gebunden (an ihre ID) und funktioniert nur auf genau dieser Kamera. Der häufigste Grund für „nicht angenommen“: Die Datei wurde auf einer anderen Kamera hochgeladen, als für die sie ausgestellt wurde.
Ich habe mehrere Kameras — brauche ich mehrere Lizenzen?
Ja, eine Lizenz pro Kamera (und pro Modul). Jede ist kostenlos; frag einfach für jede Kamera-ID eine an.
Nach einer Neuinstallation sind meine Einstellungen weg.
Beim Deinstallieren geht die Konfiguration verloren. Exportiere vorher im Backup-Tab deine Einstellungen und importiere sie nach der Neuinstallation wieder. Deine Lizenz ist nicht verloren: Spiel einfach deinen aufbewahrten Schlüssel wieder ein (die .lic-Datei oder den Schlüssel aus deiner E-Mail) — auf derselben Kamera brauchst du keine neue Lizenz.
Werden beim Backup meine Passwörter mitgesichert?
Nein — und das ist bewusst so. Aus Sicherheitsgründen werden Geheimnisse nicht mit exportiert: bei Live das Kamera-Passwort und der Stream-Key, bei Overlay und Capture z. B. E-Mail- und FTP-Passwörter. Nach dem Rücksichern eines Backups trägst du diese Felder also einmal von Hand neu ein — die App merkt sich, dass ein Passwort gesetzt war, aber nie das Passwort selbst. Wenn ein Stream oder ein Upload nach dem Wiederherstellen nicht startet, ist fast immer genau das der Grund.
Voraussetzungen & Installation
Ist Everstra sicher zu installieren? Ist es von Axis signiert und zugelassen?
Ja. Alle vier Everstra-Module — Live, Overlay, Capture und Hub — sind digital signiert und von Axis Communications gegensigniert. Bevor eine App startet, prüft die Kamera die Signatur gegen die Vertrauenskette von Axis, von der Firmware des Geräts bis zur Anwendung — so ist sichergestellt, dass sie aus einer vertrauenswürdigen Quelle stammt und unverändert auf die Kamera gelangt. Wie aktualisiere ich auf eine neue Version?
Die neue .eap herunterladen und in der Kamera unter „Apps“ über die bestehende App installieren. Anders als beim Deinstallieren bleibt die Konfiguration dabei erhalten. Damit du erfährst, wenn eine neue Version oder ein Sicherheits-Update erscheint, schalte im License-Tab die Update-Benachrichtigung ein (freiwillig, anonym).
Wie erfahre ich von neuen Versionen und Sicherheits-Updates?
Schalte im License-Tab die Update-Benachrichtigung ein — freiwillig, ab Werk aus. Einmal am Tag prüft die Kamera, ob es eine neuere Version gibt. Wenn ja, zeigt jede Seite der App einen Hinweis mit Veröffentlichungsdatum und Download-Knopf. Ein Sicherheits-Update ist hervorgehoben und lässt sich nicht wegklicken; ein normaler Hinweis lässt sich für diese Version ausblenden. Check now prüft sofort. Installiert wird nichts automatisch — wann du aktualisierst, entscheidest du.
Was sendet die Update-Prüfung?
Nichts über die Kamera. Es ist ein anonymer Abruf einer kleinen statischen Datei bei updates.everstra.com, die nur die neuesten Versionsnummern enthält. Keine Hardware-Kennung, kein Modell, nicht einmal die installierte Version wird gesendet — verglichen wird auf der Kamera. Ausgeschaltet entsteht gar keine Verbindung.
Brauche ich eine SD-Karte?
Für Streaming und Overlays nicht. Für Capture (Fotoserien, Zeitraffer) ist eine SD-Karte sinnvoll, weil dort die Aufnahmen gespeichert werden.

Wohin kann ich streamen?
YouTube, Facebook, Twitch oder jedes RTMP-/RTMPS-Ziel — direkt von der Kamera, ohne Zwischengerät.
Was brauche ich zum Einrichten?
Kamera-Benutzer, Kamera-Passwort und deinen Stream-Key (bei YouTube im Live-Dashboard). Eintragen, speichern, live.
Unterstützt es verschlüsseltes Streaming (RTMPS)?
Ja — und seit Live 0.8.0 mit Zertifikatsprüfung (frühere Versionen haben den Stream verschlüsselt, aber den Server nicht geprüft). Bei Facebook Live Pflicht, bei YouTube empfohlen — und es kommt durch Netze, die den üblichen RTMP-Port sperren.
Kann ich mehrere Streams gleichzeitig?
Ja, bis zu drei unabhängige Streams parallel — jeder mit eigenem Ziel, eigener Auflösung, Audioquelle und eigenem Bildausschnitt.
Warum kostet eine abweichende Aufnahme-Einstellung Leistung?
Eine Aufnahme „wie gesendet“ schreibt genau das Videosignal mit, das die Kamera für deinen Stream ohnehin schon encodiert — das kostet praktisch nichts zusätzlich. Sobald die Aufnahme abweicht — andere Auflösung oder Qualität, oder ohne Overlays — muss die Kamera ein zweites Videosignal erzeugen, und dessen Encoding ist echte Arbeit: gemessen rund +8,7 Prozentpunkte der Gesamt-CPU auf einer Zwei-Kern-Kamera, für einen H.264-Stream ohne Overlays aufgezeichnet. Wenn die Kamera ohnehin ausgelastet ist, belasse die Aufnahme auf „wie gesendet“.
Immer denselben, permanenten Stream-Key verwenden Wichtig
Lege in YouTube einen permanenten Stream-Key von Hand an und verwende immer diesen — nicht den Key, den YouTube für jeden neuen Stream automatisch vorschlägt. Das ist entscheidend für ununterbrochenes Streaming: Achte darauf, dass bei jeder Session und bei jedem Neuerstellen oder Reconnect immer derselbe Stream-Key genutzt wird.
Stream über „Stream planen“ einrichten, nie über „Jetzt streamen“ Sehr wichtig
Das ist der größte Hebel und zugleich der häufigste Fehler. Gehe in YouTube auf Erstellen → Livestream starten, wähle im Dashboard dann Verwalten (nicht den Eintrag „Stream“ in der Seitenleiste) und klicke auf Stream planen. Nur über einen geplanten Stream bekommst du in den Stream-Optionen die Möglichkeit, „Stream automatisch beenden“ zu deaktivieren — schalte das aus. So wird der Stream bei einer kurzen Unterbrechung nicht sofort beendet, solange du die Keep-Alive-Ausfallsicherung noch nicht nutzt.
Der Stream lässt sich nicht wiederherstellen oder die App reagiert nicht mehr — was tun?
In fast allen Fällen hilft eine saubere Neuinstallation. Zuerst die Einstellungen exportieren (Backup-Tab) und das App-Protokoll sichern, dann die App deinstallieren, neu installieren und den Lizenz-Key erneut einspielen. Wichtig: Backup und Protokoll vor dem Deinstallieren sichern — sonst sind Konfiguration und Protokoll weg.
Keep-Alive-Ausfallsicherung
Was macht die Ausfallsicherung?
Fällt die Kamera aus, übernimmt ein Standby-Client mit einem Wartungsbild, damit YouTube den Stream nicht beendet — so bleiben URL, Publikum und Reichweite erhalten, statt bei null neu zu starten.
Ist das Plug-and-play?
Nein. Der Standby-Client läuft auf einem Raspberry Pi oder kleinen Server an einem anderen Standort und wird selbst gehostet. Die Einrichtung setzt Linux-Grundwissen voraus.

Welche Overlays gibt es?
Text, Grafik und Wetter — direkt ins Kamerabild gerendert. Bis zu 5 Text-, 5 Grafik- und 2 Wetter-Overlays gleichzeitig.
Woher kommen die Wetterdaten? Brauche ich einen API-Key?
Von Open-Meteo, von der Kamera selbst abgerufen — ohne API-Key und ohne Konto. Bei gewerblicher Nutzung ist eine Zustimmung nötig; die Datenquelle wird als Attribution im Bild angezeigt.
Kann ich Overlays zeitgesteuert ein-/ausblenden?
Ja, über den Planer — nach Wochentag, Stunde und sogar automatisch nach Sonnenauf- und -untergang.
Kann Everstra Overlay Schiffe verfolgen?
Ja — der AIS Ship Tracker ist als Premium-Modul verfügbar. Er zeigt Schiffspositionen in Echtzeit auf einer interaktiven Karte, mit Schiffssymbolen, Silhouetten, Erfassung von Ankünften und Abfahrten und automatischem Ansichtswechsel. Dafür wird ein AIS-Empfänger im Netzwerk der Kamera benötigt. Der AIS Ship Tracker ist ein Premium-Modul und benötigt eine eigene Lizenz.
Zeigt Everstra Overlay Wasserstände und Gezeiten?
Ja — Water Levels ist als Premium-Modul verfügbar. Es zeigt Gezeiten, den aktuellen Pegel mit Trend, eine Tidenkurve, eine Karte mit Stationen in der Umgebung und die Wassertemperatur. Die Daten kommen von den Diensten BSH und PEGELONLINE, bundesweit, oder aus einer BSH-Gezeitendatei, die du hochlädst. Water Levels ist ein Premium-Modul und benötigt eine eigene Lizenz.
Everstra Capture
Was kann Capture aufnehmen?
Vier Modi: Long Term Capture (Einzelbilder über Wochen bis Jahre), Timelapse (Intervallaufnahme, auf der Kamera zu MP4 encodiert), Star Trail (Sternspur-Kompositbild bei Nacht) und Intraday (fortlaufender Tages-Clip).
Wo landen die Aufnahmen?
In einem gemeinsamen Medien-Manager auf der Kamera — dort filtern, herunterladen oder als ZIP packen. Optionaler FTP-Upload und eine Speicherverwaltung mit E-Mail-Warnung bei knappem Platz.
Verwaltet Capture die Aufnahmen von Everstra Live?
Ja — genau so ist die Arbeit zwischen beiden aufgeteilt. Live zeichnet den gesendeten Stream auf die SD-Karte der Kamera auf; Capture übernimmt das Material, weil dort ohnehin die Speicherverwaltung sitzt. Capture zeigt die Aufnahmen als zusammenhängende Zeiträume statt als interne Segmente der Kamera, wobei nicht aufgezeichnete Abschnitte auch als Lücken dargestellt werden; es exportiert einen beliebigen Ausschnitt als eine einzelne MKV- oder MP4-Datei und fügt mehrere Teile ohne Neuencodierung zusammen; und es regelt Aufbewahrung und Löschen. Live löscht nie eine Aufnahme — gelöscht wird an genau einer Stelle. Für die Aufnahme müssen beide Module installiert sein: ohne Capture bietet Live sie gar nicht erst an.

Wie verbinde ich Everstra Hub sicher mit Home Assistant (MQTT über TLS)?
Everstra Hub spricht MQTT über TLS mit deinem eigenen Broker — typischerweise dem Mosquitto-Add-on in Home Assistant — und erreicht ihn über Tailscale auch standortübergreifend.
