General
What is Everstra?
Free apps that run directly on Axis cameras — streaming (Live), overlays (Overlay) and time-capture (Capture). No PC, no cloud, no subscription. Made by one person who uses the apps himself.
Is it really free?
Yes. All three modules and their licences are free. There is no subscription and no hidden cost.
Do I have to install all three apps?
No. Install one, two or all three — they run independently, side by side on the same camera.
Does it work with non-Axis cameras?
No. Everstra apps are ACAP applications that run on the camera itself, and ACAP is Axis-specific. They don't run on Hikvision, Dahua or other brands.
Will Everstra stay free?
The current modules and their licences are free, and that's how they're offered today. A paid option may exist in the future, but everything available now is free to use.
How can I support Everstra? Your help counts

Licence & activation
How do I get a licence?
Request one by e-mail — you receive a licence file that you upload in the app's License tab. The trial restriction is then lifted.
How does the trial work?
Each app runs for 7 days in trial mode. After that you activate the free licence to continue.
My licence “isn't accepted” — why?
Each licence is bound to the hardware of one specific camera (its ID) and only works on that camera. The most common reason for “not accepted”: the file was uploaded to a different camera than the one it was issued for.
I have several cameras — do I need several licences?
Yes, one licence per camera (and per module). Each is free; just request one for each camera ID.
I reinstalled the app and my settings are gone.
Uninstalling removes the configuration. Export your settings in the Backup tab beforehand and import them again after reinstalling — or simply request the licence again.
Does the backup include my passwords?
No — and that's deliberate. For security reasons, secrets are not exported: for Live the camera password and stream key, for Overlay and Capture things like e-mail and FTP passwords. After restoring a backup you re-enter these fields once by hand — the app remembers that a password was set, never the password itself. If a stream or upload doesn't start after a restore, this is almost always why.
Requirements & installation
Which cameras are supported?
Axis cameras running a current AXIS OS (LTS 2024 or newer), in the aarch64 and armv7hf architectures. Some older models don't support certain overlay features — if unsure, just ask.
How do I install an app?
Download the .eap file from everstra.com and upload it in the camera's web interface under “Apps”. Done.
How do I update to a new version?
Download the new .eap and install it over the existing app in the camera's Apps page. Unlike uninstalling, updating keeps your configuration.
Do I need an SD card?
Not for streaming or overlays. For Capture (photo series, time-lapses) an SD card is recommended, because that's where the recordings are stored.
Everstra Live
Where can I stream to?
YouTube, Facebook, Twitch or any RTMP/RTMPS target — directly from the camera, with no intermediate device.
What do I need to set it up?
Your camera user, camera password and stream key (on YouTube you'll find it in the Live dashboard). Enter them, save, and you're live.
Does it support encrypted streaming (RTMPS)?
Yes, with certificate validation. Required by Facebook Live, recommended by YouTube — and it gets through networks that block the usual RTMP port.
Can I run several streams at once?
Yes, up to three independent streams in parallel — each with its own destination, resolution, audio source and view area.
Always use the same, permanent stream key Important
In YouTube, create one permanent stream key by hand and always reuse it — don't take the key YouTube auto-suggests for each new broadcast. This is essential for uninterrupted streaming: make sure the same stream key is used for every session and every time you recreate or reconnect the stream.
Set the stream up via “Schedule stream”, never “Stream now” Very important
This is the biggest lever and the most common setup mistake. In YouTube go Create → Go live, then in the dashboard choose Manage (not the “Stream” entry in the sidebar) and click Schedule stream. Only via a scheduled stream do you get the option to disable “Stop streaming automatically” in the stream settings — turn it off. That way a short interruption won't immediately end the broadcast while you're not yet using the keep-alive failover.
The stream won't recover or the app has stopped responding — what can I do?
A clean reinstall fixes it in almost all cases. First export your settings (Backup tab) and save the app log, then uninstall the app, install it again, and re-upload your licence key. Important: make the backup and save the log before you uninstall — otherwise your configuration and the log are gone.
Keep-alive failover
What does the failover do?
If the camera drops out, a standby client takes over with a maintenance image so YouTube never ends the broadcast — keeping the stream's URL, audience and accumulated reach instead of restarting from zero.
Is it plug-and-play?
No. The standby client runs on a Raspberry Pi or small server at another location and is self-hosted. Setting it up needs basic Linux knowledge.
Everstra Overlay
Which overlays are there?
Text, graphic and weather overlays, rendered directly into the camera image — up to 5 text, 5 graphic and 2 weather overlays at once.
Where does the weather come from — do I need an API key?
From Open-Meteo, fetched by the camera itself — no API key and no account. Commercial use requires a confirmation; the data source is shown as attribution in the image.
Can I schedule overlays?
Yes, via the planner — by weekday, by hour, and even automatically by sunrise and sunset.
Everstra Capture
What can Capture record?
Four modes: Long Term Capture (stills over weeks to years), Timelapse (interval capture encoded to MP4 on the camera), Star Trail (a night star-trail composite) and Intraday (a rolling daily clip).
Where do the recordings go?
Into a shared media manager on the camera — filter, download or zip them there. Optional FTP upload and storage management with an e-mail warning when space runs low.
Privacy, security & downloads
Do the apps phone home?
No. No telemetry, no tracking. The apps run locally on the camera.
How can I verify my downloads?
Every file comes with a SHA-256 checksum so you can verify the integrity of the download.
Support & custom work
Is there support?
Yes, by e-mail — a one-person project with no fixed SLA, but honest help. Feedback and ideas are explicitly welcome.
Can you build custom modules (e.g. ship / flight tracker)?
Yes, on request. One such module already runs on the Schlüttsiel ferry-port webcam (an overlay with ship tracking and weather warnings in the live image). If you need something comparable, get in touch.

Was ist Everstra?
Kostenlose Apps, die direkt auf Axis-Kameras laufen — Streaming (Live), Overlays (Overlay) und Zeit-Aufnahme (Capture). Kein PC, keine Cloud, kein Abo. Gemacht von einer Person, die die Apps selbst nutzt.
Kosten die Apps wirklich nichts?
Ja. Alle drei Module und die Lizenzen sind kostenlos. Es gibt kein Abo und keine versteckten Kosten.
Muss ich alle drei installieren?
Nein. Installier eins, zwei oder alle drei — sie laufen unabhängig nebeneinander auf derselben Kamera.
Läuft es auch auf Nicht-Axis-Kameras?
Nein. Die Everstra-Apps sind ACAP-Anwendungen, die auf der Kamera selbst laufen, und ACAP ist Axis-spezifisch. Auf Hikvision, Dahua oder anderen Marken laufen sie nicht.
Bleibt Everstra kostenlos?
Die aktuellen Module und ihre Lizenzen sind kostenlos, und so werden sie heute angeboten. Eine Bezahloption kann es künftig geben, aber alles, was jetzt verfügbar ist, ist kostenlos nutzbar.
Wie kann ich Everstra unterstützen? Deine Hilfe zählt
Everstra ist komplett kostenlos — wenn du also etwas zurückgeben möchtest, helfen zwei einfache Dinge enorm. Lizenz & Aktivierung
Wie bekomme ich eine Lizenz?
Per E-Mail anfragen — du bekommst eine Lizenzdatei, die du im License-Tab der App hochlädst. Danach ist die Testeinschränkung weg.
Was ist mit der Testphase?
Jede App läuft 7 Tage im Testmodus. Danach aktivierst du die kostenlose Lizenz, um weiterzumachen.
Die Lizenz wird „nicht angenommen“ — warum?
Jede Lizenz ist an die Hardware einer bestimmten Kamera gebunden (an ihre ID) und funktioniert nur auf genau dieser Kamera. Der häufigste Grund für „nicht angenommen“: Die Datei wurde auf einer anderen Kamera hochgeladen, als für die sie ausgestellt wurde.
Ich habe mehrere Kameras — brauche ich mehrere Lizenzen?
Ja, eine Lizenz pro Kamera (und pro Modul). Jede ist kostenlos; frag einfach für jede Kamera-ID eine an.
Nach einer Neuinstallation sind meine Einstellungen weg.
Beim Deinstallieren geht die Konfiguration verloren. Exportiere vorher im Backup-Tab deine Einstellungen und importiere sie nach der Neuinstallation wieder — oder frag die Lizenz einfach erneut an.
Werden beim Backup meine Passwörter mitgesichert?
Nein — und das ist bewusst so. Aus Sicherheitsgründen werden Geheimnisse nicht mit exportiert: bei Live das Kamera-Passwort und der Stream-Key, bei Overlay und Capture z. B. E-Mail- und FTP-Passwörter. Nach dem Rücksichern eines Backups trägst du diese Felder also einmal von Hand neu ein — die App merkt sich, dass ein Passwort gesetzt war, aber nie das Passwort selbst. Wenn ein Stream oder ein Upload nach dem Wiederherstellen nicht startet, ist fast immer genau das der Grund.
Voraussetzungen & Installation
Welche Kameras werden unterstützt?
Axis-Kameras mit aktueller AXIS OS (LTS 2024 oder neuer), in den Architekturen aarch64 und armv7hf. Einige ältere Modelle unterstützen bestimmte Overlay-Funktionen nicht — bei Unsicherheit kurz nachfragen.
Wie installiere ich eine App?
Die .eap-Datei von everstra.com herunterladen und in der Kamera-Weboberfläche unter „Apps“ hochladen. Fertig.
Wie aktualisiere ich auf eine neue Version?
Die neue .eap herunterladen und in der Kamera unter „Apps“ über die bestehende App installieren. Anders als beim Deinstallieren bleibt die Konfiguration dabei erhalten.
Brauche ich eine SD-Karte?
Für Streaming und Overlays nicht. Für Capture (Fotoserien, Zeitraffer) ist eine SD-Karte sinnvoll, weil dort die Aufnahmen gespeichert werden.
Everstra Live
Wohin kann ich streamen?
YouTube, Facebook, Twitch oder jedes RTMP-/RTMPS-Ziel — direkt von der Kamera, ohne Zwischengerät.
Was brauche ich zum Einrichten?
Kamera-Benutzer, Kamera-Passwort und deinen Stream-Key (bei YouTube im Live-Dashboard). Eintragen, speichern, live.
Unterstützt es verschlüsseltes Streaming (RTMPS)?
Ja, mit Zertifikatsprüfung. Bei Facebook Live Pflicht, bei YouTube empfohlen — und es kommt durch Netze, die den üblichen RTMP-Port sperren.
Kann ich mehrere Streams gleichzeitig?
Ja, bis zu drei unabhängige Streams parallel — jeder mit eigenem Ziel, eigener Auflösung, Audioquelle und eigenem Bildausschnitt.
Immer denselben, permanenten Stream-Key verwenden Wichtig
Lege in YouTube einen permanenten Stream-Key von Hand an und verwende immer diesen — nicht den Key, den YouTube für jeden neuen Stream automatisch vorschlägt. Das ist entscheidend für ununterbrochenes Streaming: Achte darauf, dass bei jeder Session und bei jedem Neuerstellen oder Reconnect immer derselbe Stream-Key genutzt wird.
Stream über „Stream planen“ einrichten, nie über „Jetzt streamen“ Sehr wichtig
Das ist der größte Hebel und zugleich der häufigste Fehler. Gehe in YouTube auf Erstellen → Livestream starten, wähle im Dashboard dann Verwalten (nicht den Eintrag „Stream“ in der Seitenleiste) und klicke auf Stream planen. Nur über einen geplanten Stream bekommst du in den Stream-Optionen die Möglichkeit, „Stream automatisch beenden“ zu deaktivieren — schalte das aus. So wird der Stream bei einer kurzen Unterbrechung nicht sofort beendet, solange du die Keep-Alive-Ausfallsicherung noch nicht nutzt.
Der Stream lässt sich nicht wiederherstellen oder die App reagiert nicht mehr — was tun?
In fast allen Fällen hilft eine saubere Neuinstallation. Zuerst die Einstellungen exportieren (Backup-Tab) und das App-Protokoll sichern, dann die App deinstallieren, neu installieren und den Lizenz-Key erneut einspielen. Wichtig: Backup und Protokoll vor dem Deinstallieren sichern — sonst sind Konfiguration und Protokoll weg.
Keep-Alive-Ausfallsicherung
Was macht die Ausfallsicherung?
Fällt die Kamera aus, übernimmt ein Standby-Client mit einem Wartungsbild, damit YouTube den Stream nicht beendet — so bleiben URL, Publikum und Reichweite erhalten, statt bei null neu zu starten.
Ist das Plug-and-play?
Nein. Der Standby-Client läuft auf einem Raspberry Pi oder kleinen Server an einem anderen Standort und wird selbst gehostet. Die Einrichtung setzt Linux-Grundwissen voraus.
Everstra Overlay
Welche Overlays gibt es?
Text, Grafik und Wetter — direkt ins Kamerabild gerendert. Bis zu 5 Text-, 5 Grafik- und 2 Wetter-Overlays gleichzeitig.
Woher kommen die Wetterdaten? Brauche ich einen API-Key?
Von Open-Meteo, von der Kamera selbst abgerufen — ohne API-Key und ohne Konto. Bei gewerblicher Nutzung ist eine Zustimmung nötig; die Datenquelle wird als Attribution im Bild angezeigt.
Kann ich Overlays zeitgesteuert ein-/ausblenden?
Ja, über den Planer — nach Wochentag, Stunde und sogar automatisch nach Sonnenauf- und -untergang.

Was kann Capture aufnehmen?
Vier Modi: Long Term Capture (Einzelbilder über Wochen bis Jahre), Timelapse (Intervallaufnahme, auf der Kamera zu MP4 encodiert), Star Trail (Sternspur-Kompositbild bei Nacht) und Intraday (fortlaufender Tages-Clip).
Wo landen die Aufnahmen?
In einem gemeinsamen Medien-Manager auf der Kamera — dort filtern, herunterladen oder als ZIP packen. Optionaler FTP-Upload und eine Speicherverwaltung mit E-Mail-Warnung bei knappem Platz.
Datenschutz, Sicherheit & Downloads
Telefonieren die Apps nach Hause?
Nein. Keine Telemetrie, kein Tracking. Die Apps laufen lokal auf der Kamera.
Wie kann ich die Downloads prüfen?
Zu jeder Datei gibt es eine SHA-256-Prüfsumme, mit der du die Integrität des Downloads verifizieren kannst.

Gibt es Support?
Ja, per E-Mail — ein Ein-Personen-Projekt ohne festes SLA, aber mit ehrlicher Hilfe. Feedback und Ideen sind ausdrücklich willkommen.
Könnt ihr individuelle Module bauen (z. B. Schiffs-/Flug-Tracker)?
Ja, auf Anfrage. Ein solches Modul läuft bereits an der Schlüttsiel-Fährhafen-Webcam (Overlay mit Schiffs-Tracking und Wetterwarnungen im Live-Bild). Bei Bedarf einfach melden.
